Best Man Toast

1. Open your best man toast with a funny joke.  It’s got to be good.  Practice this because it will set the tone for your toast and speech.
2. Briefly introduce yourself – many will not know you.
3. Give thanks to the Groom for choosing you as the best man.
4. Say something very sincere about the bride and how beautiful she looks.
5. Give thanks to the bride’s parents.
6. Weave into your speech something that the father of the bride said and give him credit.
7. Give a toast to bride and groom’s parents.
8. Make mention of the gifts that the couple gave you and thank them.
9. Give a few stories of some stupid things that you and the groom did together.  If there were any disasters in making arrangements for the wedding and are funny, include them.
10. You and the groom are great friends-mention how that came to be.
11. Ask a funny rhetorical question like “Why would have chosen me as the best man?  I gave them both so many headaches by…”
12. Face and make eye contact with the couple.  Say a few funny anecdotes about them
13. Mention how the bride and groom met.  If it’s sort of racey, skip the details.
14. Mention how the groom first told you about….
15. Talk about what a slob the groom was before he got engage and how much he has changed.
16. Teasing the groom is the crux of your best man speech. You as best man have a license to embarrass him in an amusing way front of all wedding guests. You have to have something funny about him.
17. Show photos of embarrassing moments for the groom and tell the story behind it.
18. Don’t say anything stupid about the bride, her family, or the groom’s family.
19. Hold off on any drinking until after your speech.
20. By all means have a drink after the toast!

Remember, this is a special day for celebrating and remembering.   The best man duties include so many tasks.  For myself, the wedding toast speech was the most rewarding!

Enjoy yourself on the wedding day.  You will probably have even more fun than the bride and groom because there are less expectations for you.
